Day 7: Viviers – La Pouzin

We reach the town of Viviers where you can join an optional excursion to see the spectacular Ardèche gorges, hailed as the Grand Canyon of Europe with cliffs towering up to 1,000 feet above the meandering river. The most striking feature is the Pont d’Arc, a natural stone arch standing over 200 feet high with a span of 110 feet. We return to our ship in Le Pouzin, where the afternoon is free to relax onboard as we cruise back to Lyon.


Day 1 London - Lyon

We travel to Lyon and board our ship for a relaxing evening, as we begin cruising along the Saône river towards Mâcon.


Day 2 Mâcon

Today you have the option of joining three different excursions which explore the beautiful region of Burgundy. The first visits Cluny Abbey, which was once the seat of the greatest medieval monastic order in the west. Next you can join a walking tour of Mâcon and enjoy the distinctly Mediterranean feel of this little town with its colourful buildings. You can then end the day with a scenic tour along the Beaujolais wine route, which is lined with endless rows of vineyards and estates.


Day 3 Chalon sur Saône

Wake up in Chalon sur Saône in the middle of wine country and join an optional walking tour which reveals the highlights of this lively market town. You can then join another optional excursion visiting the town of Beaune, one of the best places in France to taste wine. We return to our ship in Tournus, where you can join an optional stroll through the town.


Day 4 Lyon - Vienne

We cruise back to Lyon where you can join an optional city tour to see the main sights of this beautiful destination. Around midday we join the Rhône river and cruise to Vienne, one of the oldest cities in the Rhône-Alpes region, where you can join an optional walk through the town centre. Later in the day we continue along the Rhône on our way to Avignon.


Day 5 Avignon

Enjoy a relaxing morning onboard our ship before we reach Avignon. This graceful city is best known for the Palais des Papes, the largest gothic palace in the world where Pope Clement V took up permanent residence in the 14th century. The city walls are accessed by one of seven doors, which lead you into a beautiful web of papal architecture, charming streets and attractive courtyards. You can spend your time here at leisure or join an optional city tour to ensure you miss none of the highlights.


Day 6 Avignon

Today you can join an optional excursion which takes you by coach through the vast and beautiful Camargue nature reserve in search of the iconic wildlife, which includes white horses, black bulls and pink flamingos. After lunch you can join another optional excursion which takes you around Arles. This quaint little city is widely regarded as the heart of Provence and was where Vincent van Gogh produced some of his most famous paintings. Later in the day we continue cruising towards Viviers.


Day 7 Viviers – La Pouzin

Day 8 Lyon - London

After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts and set off on the return journey to London.
