The award-winning African Queen is approximately 30.5 metres with two decks. It has been beautifully converted by its owners and is one of only a handful of floating hotels that sail along the River Thames. The African Queen accommodates 14 passengers, which ensures a warm and friendly atmosphere onboard.

The barge includes a bar, dining area, outside deck and library.

There is a bar in the barge’s communal area with comfortable seating. It provides a great setting to mingle with your fellow guests and enjoy a few drinks as you travel from destination to destination.

Onboard, you can enjoy the hospitality and cuisine in the spacious dining area. The crew will serve a mixture of traditional English cuisine and delicious Dutch and Cape Malay-style dishes.

Meet the captain

Andy CowleyAndy Cowley

Andy is originally from the Isle of Wight but emigrated to South Africa as a boy, which is where he met his wife, Bonny. Andy returned to the UK in his 50s with his wife and in 2004 they bought the African Queen. Having sailed it across the Irish Sea, they spent eight months converting it into the wonderful floating hotel it is today.

While Andy is the host, his wife Bonny is responsible for the great meals onboard.
