Rhine & Moselle Explorer

Sit back and relax as we drift along the Rhine and the Moselle, stopping to explore our captain’s favourite ports of call. They may flow into one another at the city of Koblenz, but these two rivers are very different – the mighty Rhine which offers legendary landscapes and vibrant cities, and the meandering Moselle whose valley is an ocean of vineyards dotted with quaint medieval towns. Few people know them as well as our devoted captain, not only in terms of navigating a ship, but also the finer details of where to go and what to do. So we have drawn from his knowledge and experience to offer the best of the Rhine and the Moselle in one seamless journey.

Day 1: UK – Koblenz
We travel to the city of Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, and settle aboard our ship for a relaxing evening.

Day 2: Koblenz – Rüdesheim – Boppard
This morning we cruise upriver along the Rhine through the spectacular Rhine Gorge, arriving at the pretty town of Rüdesheim. Here you are free to explore at leisure, or you can join our optional excursion for the chance to see the fascinating Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum and enjoy a cable car ride above the vineyards for panoramic views of the Rhine. Later today we continue along the Rhine and stop at Boppard where we berth overnight.

Day 3: Boppard – Cochem
This morning we set sail to the charming town of Cochem, where we arrive in the early afternoon. Cochem is located on the banks of the Moselle River and is dominated by the Reichsburg castle, which is over 1000 years old and was restored in the 19th century in neo-Gothic style. This afternoon, you have the opportunity to join our optional excursion to the castle where you’ll enjoy a guided tour. This evening we berth overnight in Cochem.

Day 4: Cochem – Traben Trarbach
Watch the scenery glide by as we sail along the Moselle and continue to Traben Trarbach where we arrive around lunchtime. Traben Trarbach is a quaint town filled with half-timbered buildings and elegant aristocratic homes. Here you are free to explore at leisure, perhaps visit the Middle Moselle Museum and the small bicycle museum which are both highly recommended. Alternatively you can join our optional guided tour, which will provide a fascinating insight into the ancient region of Trier.

Day 5: Traben Trarbach – Bernkastel – Zell
This morning we arrive in the wine capital of Bernkastel and have some free time to explore. Bernkastel is a quintessential medieval German town, featuring a charming market square with quaint cafés and streets lined with half- timbered houses. Later today, we continue along the Moselle to the pretty town of Zell where we berth overnight.

Day 6: Zell –Alken – Koblenz
We cruise this morning to Alken, a picturesque village located in the heart of the Moselle Valley. This afternoon there’s the opportunity to join our optional wine tasting in the beautiful wine vallage of Winningen before we continue back to Koblenz.

Day 7: Koblenz – Andernach
This morning is free to explore the historic walled city of Koblenz. Visit the statue of William the Great which marks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers, or take a trip by cable car to the magnificent Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and its fascinating museums. This afternoon we sail to the little town of Andernach where there’s the chance to join our optional excursion to Sayn Palace and its beautiful Butterfly Garden.

Day 8: Andernach – UK
After breakfast we bid farewell to our captain and crew and set off on the return journey to the UK.
