The D-Day Anniversary Seine Cruise with Dan Snow

The 6th June 2019 will witness the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, one of the turning points of the Second World War. Join us aboard the MS Seine Princess as we commemorate this momentous occasion and listen as Dan Snow reflects on what was the first step on the road to Victory in the West. That’s not all this sensational cruise has to offer... you’ll have plenty of time to relax as we cruise through the scenic French countryside and the quaint riverside towns that shaped the course of the Second World War. With history and culture combined and the comforts of our ship never far away, this is an unforgettable experience you won’t want to miss.

Day 1: UK – Paris
We travel to Paris and join our ship, the MS Seine Princess. After you’ve settled into your cabin, we’ll enjoy a welcome cocktail followed by dinner and a relaxing evening onboard our ship.

Day 2: Château de Martainville
This morning we arrive in the pretty little town of Les Andelys where we will cross Le Petit Andelys village and sail by the 16th century St Sauveur Church. Join our included coach excursion through the villages that lie alongside the Andelle River, which runs through the valley, before arriving at the Château de Martainville. The château was built at the end of the 15th century by Jacques Le Pelletier, before being bought by the state in 1906 and turned into a museum in 1961. Here you can immerse yourself in more than 500 years of rural Normandy history before we rejoin the ship in Elbeuf. This evening we set sail and cruise along the Seine towards Honfleur. On your return to the cruise ship, you will enjoy an evening of entertainment, including a talk and Q&A with our guest speaker Dan Snow.

Day 3: Honfleur
Today we visit Honfleur, which lies between the estuaries where the water of the River Seine meets the English Channel. The Port of Honfleur was not directly affected by the Normandy beach landings; it’s one of the rare villages that came out of the war nearly intact. Here we have a full day exploring this picturesque harbour town and soaking up the atmosphere as we tour some of the key locations that featured in the D-Day Landings. Dan Snow will join us to give us a second talk, setting the scene for the circumstances leading up to D-Day.

Day 4: D-Day 75th Anniversary Commemorations
Today we mark the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings with participation in the official commemorations organised by the Royal British Legion. This remarkable event will be attended by dignitaries and representatives from the allied nations, along with surviving veterans, and promises to be an unforgettable and poignant experience. Specialist Royal Legion guides will join us throughout to share their expert knowledge, making this a truly memorable occasion. We then return to the ship to enjoy a relaxing evening and set sail to Rouen.

Day 5: Rouen - Paris
Wake up this morning in Rouen, the historical capital of Normandy once described by Victor Hugo as the city of ‘a hundred spires’. The city was heavily damaged on D-Day during World War II and its famed cathedral was very nearly destroyed by Allied bombs. After breakfast you have free time to explore the twisting lanes of the medieval quarter and the striking gothic cathedral, which rises high above the skyline. This afternoon we rejoin the ship where you are free to relax on board. This evening we set sail for Paris and enjoy a delicious Gala Dinner.

Day 6: Paris – UK
After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts and disembark for the return journey to the UK.
