Expanding programmes

The River Cruise Line has released its 2017 programme across our 3 and 4 star ships. With 31 itineraries in 16 countries, we offer a superior on board experience that includes all meals and an optional range of excursions, onboard entertainment and first class service – all accompanied by a specialist Cruise Manager.

Working with The River Cruise Line

We continue to build relationships with agencies, offering great value European river cruises which provide great sales and commission opportunities. With new vessels launching every year, itineraries selling out months in advance and high levels of repeat business – river cruising is the perfect way for agencies to expand their business!

The River Cruise Line passengers are loyal customers who offer agencies the opportunity to increase sales and commission through repeat bookings.

Our clientele are:

• Aged between 50 and 70

• Mainly ‘empty nesters’ whose children have left home

• Active people who like something to do all of the time

• Those who enjoy the personal touch and having all details taken care of

Unique selling points:

• No nighttime cruising means passengers do not miss any sights and there is no disturbing engine noise while trying to sleep.

• We stop at a different port every evening.

• Visits to villages and smaller towns, rather than big cities.

• Ships are smaller and more intimate than ocean cruisers.

Target audience:

• Experienced travellers

• Those interested in the culture of a particular destination

• Clients who want destination experiences and a way to get discover the local culture

• Past ocean cruise clients

• Customers outside of the usual demographic – those aged 30 to 40 are becoming more attracted to river cruising

Things to remember:

• Concentrate on selling the value of a river cruise holiday rather than on the price.

• Our all inclusive pricing offers value for clients and commission opportunities for agents.

• Be knowledgeable about the destinations as passengers spend a lot of time touring ashore.

• Customers spend more time touring ashore than on an ocean cruise – advise them to book excursion packages.

• Put a price on everything that is included – transfers, entertainment, excursions etc.

• Focus on the personal ambiance of river cruising – good for families who enjoy travelling together.

• Sell the experience – a river cruise is like a hotel on water.

• Describe the intimate and personal touches on board our ships – passengers have the chance to make new friends.

• Recommend shorter itineraries to new river cruising customers.

The River Cruise Line offer passengers a wide range of excursions (optional and included). We recommend to pre book excursions at the time of booking in the UK to avoid disappointment. Passengers may also be given the opportunity to stay longer in a city or at an attraction to explore on their own.

Useful information

• All excursions are listed in the brochure with descriptions and prices.

• Times of excursions are not fixed as they are dependent on ship sailing schedules.

• Most walking tours are 1 to 2 hours and are booked with local guides.

• Cologne and Bonn highlight excursions: These are not guided tours – an orientation is provided giving passengers an idea of what is available to discover in the area.

• Full day excursions: Depart from the ship at approximately 09.00 and return to the ship mid/late afternoon.

• Wine tasting excursions: These are usually a maximum of 2 ½ to 3 hours.

• Make sure you ask about any disabilities etc with customers at the time of booking so our reservations team can check for suitability when booking excursions.
